What
I've Learned Since Graduation
Not to tell people that you are
from "Oak Cliff." They can't seem to understand that it used to be a good
place to live.
The
Last 35 Years
I moved to Australia within two months of graduation
and lived in the city of Cairns, Queensland for a few years. Returning to
the US, I attended BYU in Provo, Utah as a Music (Performance) Major.
Returning to Texas after graduation I spent the next two decades as a
municipal police officer/sergeant. A sideline of writing a couple of
police "textbooks" and a position as a staff writer for SWAT magazine
led to
an offer training and managing corporate security/executive protection
teams -- and I'm still there (but I'm planning "another" retirement in
about 2 years). I have 9 children (5 sons and 4 daughters - ages range
from 30 to 7) and 4 grandchildren.
I'm still a part time musician (remember the
"Musician's Club" in the woodshop?) and have played in several bands over
these last 35 years. As "old age" sets in, I've turned playing the guitar
over to others and mostly play bass guitar or keyboards now.
